Original brick molds have been used in Indian construction for generations. Today they are only used to a limited extent, but you can still spot old molds and brick kilns scattered across the fields. Clay was pressed into the molds, then turned over so the brick could be gently shaken out. The bricks were left to dry in the sun before being fired in a kiln. Each small workshop had its own stamp carved into the mold to mark where the brick came from. If you’re wondering whether your brick mold is original, look for traces of a stamp on the bottom – a small but beautiful sign of its past.
